23rd September – Rotherfield vs Ashurst Wood

Rotherfield U12’s first league game of the season started with a roar. After an initial battle which saw shots on target from both sides. Dexter scored from a beautiful cross in from Jamie to open the score. This was soon followed by our new recruit Ollie who just got a foot to another great cross and slipped the ball inside the left post. Ollie was very unlucky not to save a penalty and narrowly conceded a shot into the top corner in the first half but some excellent goal keeping and a second goal from Dexter took us into half time with a 3-2 lead.

The early part of the second half was all pressure and our defence had to work very hard to hold off Ashursts relentless assault. Some fine saves from Ollie and committed defending from Luke Timmy Jordan and Conner held the score. As we regained composure our midfield and strikers worked well together and Jamie scored twice from excellent runs, Louis and Tyler also came close to finding the net.

Ashursts final push caught us a little tired and we conceded two goals in the final 10 minutes and had Andy praying for the full time whistle.
